This is a cool bowl. It's wide and shallow. Because the maple is spalted it means that there are hard and soft areas in the wood. The dip on the side of the bowl is where the wood is softer and therefore sanded down faster than the other areas on the bowl. The variation in hard and soft spots in the wood does not lessen the integrity of the bowl.
This is great for both salads and a center piece.
